Tanzania Project – 2012

Tanzania is one of the world’s poorest countries in terms of per capita income with the average person living on less than $1 per day. The country ranks 12th in the world for HIV/AIDS adult prevalence rate, a fact that leaves many children orphaned and without family support.

On June 24, 2012, Dr. Brandé Flamez and Dr. Judy Green will travel to Tanzania, Africa to offer free training to groups of local teachers and Catholic priests of the Moshi Diocese. The Mental Health Facilitator training, sponsored by the National Board of Certified Counselors, was developed to provide basic counseling skills to community workers around the world who need these basic skills to work effectively with the people of their villages and towns. Through June and July, Drs. Flamez and Green will also lead a group of interested travelers to visit local hospitals, orphanages, schools, and churches to experience the culture of the country and provide much needed donations.

Dr. Flamez, Dr. Green, and Kate Rodriquez are currently working to raise money for the local orphanages, hospitals, schools, and Diocese of Moshi including:

  1. Rainbow Orphanage – for children from birth to 5 years old
  2. Upendo Orphanage Center – for older children
  3. Schools – from kindergarten through high school including several seminaries, and
  4. Two hospitals: Kibosho and Soweto.

Your generous contributions will help purchase food and clothing for the children of Rainbow and Upendo Orphanage Centers, school supplies for the schools supported by the Diocese of Moshi, and medical supplies and medications for hospitals. Please do whatever you can to support this effort. Any donation amount will be appreciated.

If you would like to help, please donate by clicking the yellow “Give” button in the sidebar and/or if you are local to Corpus Christi, come to Cassidy’s Irish Pub on May 25, 2012 for our special event.
